Magazine Profile:

Using a sumptuous color palette, rich in ochre and crimsons, Australian born Stewart Forrest paints his subjects as nature creates them, with an element of divine dynamism. Working on large canvases, Forrest boldly experiments with paint, espousing his freedom as a human and artist to explore the vast terrain of creative expression. Exploring a range of subjects taken from his psyche and physical surroundings alike, the artist paints with an inspiring, refreshing vitality and an empowering sense of courage, portraying in paint what he experiences moment to moment. “I try to let the painting process and subject matter become the tools for extracting my underlying thoughts, masking them beneath the layers of paint, only to be sensed by the receptive viewer,” he explains. The layers of both paint and concept that animate these bold images make attentive, sensitive viewing more than worth the effort.

Stewart Forrest first learned about art and its amazing potential from his mother. He is currently represented by Agora Gallery while residing in Bergen, Norway with his wife and children.

Experiments – Smearing ink in ordered chaos.

These experimental works were originally inspired by images of ink drops in water. I was immensely drawn to the cloud like fractal forms they create and wanted to see if the spontaneous, fluid movements of my hand could achieve something so organic. After a lot of trial and error, black messes, discarded and re-primed canvases, I found that taking, 5-10 minutes to contemplate what I wanted to achieve before the 5-10 second spontaneous application, was an essential part to acquiring the desired results. The results being something I find embodies the same enticing elements seen in bonsai trees, 4 dimensional fractals, ink drops and other ungraspable beauties of nature.

These works are 46x54cm and for sale at kr2700 each. (Tre Brør utstilling)

It seems the small impulsive processes that bestow identity and character have nowhere to reside untill placed inside a predetermined intention or framework; somewhere they can resonate togeather and shine. The resulting intensity being completely determined by the degree of confidence and clarity aquired, before attack.

These works/ experiments are for sale at NOK 3000 each and are on exhibition in Voss from the 1st September at Tre Brør.

Anne Angelshaug – seperat utstilling

Her works are distinctive for the whimsical depictions of peculiar children and their interactions with the mystical world around them.
There is a quality of bitter-sweetness to her images. She create an immediate sense of pleasant, open space with her careful choice of subdued colors and then, through her distorted characters, allows the viewer to sense an underlying atmosphere of ghostly despair.

KAN IKKE VENTE PÅ UTVIKLINGEN I PARADIS

To wait for the perfect conditions, could mean you’ll be waiting forever!

Butikk i gamle Kolonial lager.

Vi kunne ikke vente på utviklingen til å skjer på Paradis og har derfor pusset opp den gamle Paradis Kolonial. Oppussingen er fremdeles i gang, men vi åpner (uoffisielt) galleri utvidelse med en ny butikk, “TING PÅ GANG” i forbindelse med neste utstillingen, 19 mai.

Utrykket er en kombinasjon av den opprinnelige gamle bygningen (inkl. mit i treverk) og ny opp pusset vegger.

Her skal det selges kunst, brukskunst, klær og produkter som skiller seg ut fra de mer kommersielle.

Søndager fremover skal det også holdes intim, matineer konserter mellom kl14 og 18. Den første er søndag 18 mai med Annveig Fjellstad.

Atelierer i gamle Kolonialen.

Atelierene er i bruk og her er det foreløpig 8 kreative personer som holde til. Inkludert i deres leie er muligheten til å viser frem sine kunst. Når butikken, “Ting på Gang” er helt ferdig, skal det lages 2 arbeids plasser til.

Galleriet

Gallery Forrest-Shadeshape & Fineart skifte utstillinger månedlig og åpningen av nye utstillinger intigreres med levende musikk. Ved neste åpning, lørdag 19 mai, er det Birgitte Bakke, en av norges 3 “Hang” spillere og datteren til utstilleren.

STEIN BAKKE

Stein Bakke er 66 år og til daglig førsteamanuensis i musikkpedagogikk ved Griegakademiet, Høgskolen i Bergen. Han er ellers aktiv som jazzpianist i byens jazz miljø og har et godt navn som akkompagnetør bl.a. i korsammen heng. Utstillingen på Gallery Forrest – Shadeshape & Fineart er hans første seperatutstilling. Stein Bakke har ingen formell utdannelse i maling eller fotografering, men ca. 5 år med kurs på fritid hos kunstneren Magnar Moen i Bergen. Stein Bakke stiller ut åde malerier i akryl og fotografier i akryl på pleksiglass.

Velkommen til åpningen kl 18-20, lørdag 19 Mai.

Recent work-Decay

Since arriving in Norway, I have been admiring the old rotting farm houses and industrial buildings around Bergen. Lately I’ve been finding inspiration in the dauntingly beautiful process of decay. It is a Phenomenon that we can all relate to, though rarely consider. The same patterns that rot a house away, are at work, slowly decomposing religions, societies, loved ones. We say goodbye or replace them with something new. Evolve, move on and let go. Though ultimately, the entire universe is not exempt from this rule.
